The world economic crisis has descended on the SCO space like a Siberian blast that brings frost and ice and leaves behind a white winter, sparking mild hysteria. The landscape seems uniformly attired, but that can be a highly deceptive appearance. Russia and China, which make up the sum total of the SCO experience, are responding to the economic crisis in vastly different terms.

58226 Majority now back Congressman Ron Paul's bill to audit the Federal Reserve
Less than 24 hours after WND reported a proposal from U.S. Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, to audit the Federal Reserve was approaching majority support in the U.S. House, he is confirming the plan has reached that "crucial benchmark."

"The tremendous grass-roots and bipartisan support in Congress for H.R. 1207 is an indicator of how mainstream America is fed up with Fed secrecy," Paul said shortly after U.S. Rep Dennis Kucinich, D-Ohio, became the 218th cosponsor, giving the plan, technically, majority support in the 435-member House.

58230 All countries of the world prepare for war
World’s leading countries spend too much of their war preparations. A new arms race has been gathering pace in the world recently, and even the global economic setback does not seem to be a reason to stop the race.

Russia takes an active participation in the new arms race, just like other countries of the world do, scientists of politics say. A research from Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) said that the total defense spending of all countries of the world reached the unexampled level - $1.464 trillion in 2008. The international spending on the defense industry has thus increased by 45 percent in comparison with 1999, the study said.

The USA’s defense spending is the largest in the world, of course – 58 percent of the general growth of defense costs over the recent decade. Russia and China tripled their defense spending. Beijing assigned $84.9 billion for the purpose, whereas Russia spent $58.6 billion. Russia is not going to stop on this number, despite the current economic problems, the study from the Swedish Institute said.

The growth of Russia’s and China’s defense spending is rather impressive. However, their numbers pale in comparison with those of the United States - $607 billion. There is nothing surprising about it: the military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan cost the USA about $903 billion.

Consequently, the USA takes the first place on the top ten list of the countries that had the largest funding of their defense industries in 2008. China comes second, France comes third with Britain, Russia, Germany, Japan, Italy, Saudi Arabia and India following.

Iran, Israel, India, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Brazil and Britain contributed a lot to the growth of defense spending in the world this year. All these countries were not spending so much on their defense before. The countries of the Middle East will increase their defense spending next year – they already plan large-scale arms deals.

58231 Kyrgyz closure of US base 'final'

Kyrgyzstan says its decision to close a US base that serves as a vital supply route for US and Nato operations in Afghanistan is "final".

It contradicts US statements that talks are ongoing about the base's future.

Meanwhile, the US has asked to move supplies through Russia, and Tajikistan has said it will allow the transit of non-military goods into Afghanistan.

Nato is understood to be increasingly concerned about the security of its supply routes through Pakistan.

Most of its supplies come through Pakistan's Khyber Pass, which has come under increasing militant attacks.

58233 Author: Fitzgerald libel threat aimed at censoring key 9/11 tale

Ali Mohamed, according to Lance, was something of an al Qaeda super-spy who managed to work with terrorists, the Green Berets, the CIA and become an FBI informant, even while ensuring Osama bin Laden’s safe passage around the middle east. For years, Triple Cross alleges, the FBI and specifically Fitzgerald, knew about him but allowed Mohamed’s activities to continue unchecked.

Mohamed, Lance wrote, was actually responsible for writing portions of the terror network’s training manual and played a key role in the bombings of U.S. embassies in Africa which left over 200 dead.

“While some contend that Mohamed’s intimate relations with the FBI and CIA are proof of government involvement in a 9/11 plot, Lance says that it was instead embarrassment and ass-covering on the part of Justice and Pentagon officials over the mishandling of Ali Mohammed that led first to a conspiracy of silence and then to a conspiracy to cover up their incompetence and deception,” noted author Rory O’Connor in November, 2006. “He believes that chagrin over the fact that bin Laden’s spy stole top-secret intelligence (including, for example, the positions of all Green Beret and SEAL units worldwide) led to a decision on high to bury the entire Able Danger intelligence program, which identified the Al Qaeda cell active in Brooklyn months before the 9/11 attacks, and also identified Ali Mohamed as a member of bin Laden’s inner circle as early as March 2000.”

“In 1996, Fitzgerald and other top officials discredited a treasure trove of al Qaeda-related evidence, including evidence of an active al Qaeda cell operating in NYC five years before 9/11 and of a bin Laden plot to hijack a plane to free Sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman—intelligence considered so important that it was later cited in the infamous Presidential Daily Briefing given to George W. Bush just weeks before 9/11,” noted HarperCollins in a press release.

Mohamed is allegedly still alive today, though his whereabouts is unknown.

58234 It's official - cheap oil era is over

So here's the headline for you: for the first time, the well-respected EIA appears to be joining with those experts who have long argued that the era of cheap and plentiful oil is drawing to a close. Almost as notable, when it comes to news, the 2009 report highlights Asia's growing demand for energy and suggests that China is moving ever closer to the point at which it will overtake the United States as the world's number one energy consumer. Clearly, a new era of cutthroat energy competition is on us.

Peak Oil becomes the new norm
As recently as 2007, the IEO projected that the global production of conventional oil (the stuff that comes gushing out of the ground in liquid form) would reach 107.2 million barrels per day in 2030, a substantial increase from the 81.5 million barrels produced in 2006.

Now, in 2009, the latest edition of the report has grimly dropped that projected 2030 figure to just 93.1 million barrels per day - in future-output terms, an eye-popping decline of 14.1 million expected barrels per day.

Even when you add in the 2009 report's projection of a larger increase than once expected in the output of unconventional fuels, you still end up with a net projected decline of 11.1 million barrels per day in the global supply of liquid fuels (when compared with the IEO's soaring 2007 projected figures). What does this decline signify - other than growing pessimism by energy experts when it comes to the international supply of petroleum liquids?

Very simply, it indicates that the usually optimistic analysts at the Department of Energy now believe global fuel supplies will simply not be able to keep pace with rising world energy demands.

58235 The meaning of the Tehran spring

Fast forward to this past Friday, when Khamenei met with Rafsanjani, the powerful, actual number two in the regime, who had warned the Supreme Leader three days earlier about the serious possibility of election fraud. Khamenei dismissed it.

Mousavi had also warned of fraud after Ayatollah Mesbah Yazdi, Ahmadinejad's apocalyptic, Mahdist spiritual mentor, appeared to endorse vote rigging.

Ominous signs were piling up fast. Before the election, the IRGC officially warned it would not tolerate a "velvet revolution" orchestrated by Mousavi's urban sea of green. On election day, ballot papers "disappeared" from thousands of polling places. SMS messages were blocked.

The polls closed at 10pm on Friday, Tehran time. Most main streets then were fully decked out in green. In an absolutely crucial development, the great Iranian film director Mohsen Makhmalbaf told Radio Farda how Mousavi's main campaign office in Tehran received a phone call on Saturday at 1am; the Interior Ministry was saying "Don't announce Mr Mousavi's victory yet ... We will gradually prepare the public and then you can proceed." Iranian bloggers broke down the vote at the time as 19.7 million for Mousavi, between 7 and 8 million for Ahmadinejad, 7 million for Karroubi, and 3 million for Rezai.

Then all hell seemed to break loose. Phones, SMS, text messaging, YouTube, political blogs, opposition websites, foreign media websites, all communication networks, in a cascade, were shutting down fast. Military and police forces started to take over Tehran's streets. The Ahmadinejad-controlled Ministry of Interior - doubling as election headquarters - was isolated by concrete barriers. Iranian TV switched to old Iron Curtain-style "messages of national unity". And the mind-boggling semi-final numbers of Ahmadinejad's landslide were announced (Ahmadinejad 64%, Mousavi 32%, Rezai 2% and Karroubi less than 1%).

The fact that the electoral commission had less than three hours to hand-count 81% of 39 million votes is positively a "divine assessment".

58240 DoD Training Manual: Protests are "Low-Level Terrorism"

A copy of this can be found on the last two pages of this pdf.

The ACLU learned of this training and on June 10, 2009 sent a letter to the Gail McGinn, Acting Under-Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness, objecting to their training all DoD personnel that the exercise of First Amendment rights constitutes "low-level terrorism."

For those who have worried about a trend - evident, for example, in the USA PATRIOT Act, the universal and ongoing government surveillance of all of Americans' electronic communications that began in February of 2001 (seven months before 9/11), the global war on a tactic (terrorism), therefore making this war unending, the unprecedented pre-emptive arrests of protestors at the 2008 Republican National Convention with those protesters being charged as "domestic terrorists," the justifications for torture, pre-emptive wars of aggression, ongoing occupations, American gulags such as Bagram, suspension of habeas corpus, and "prolonged detention" for acts someone might commit, not what they have done, FBI et al infiltration of protest groups and the government's acknowledged use of undercover agents (agents provocateurs) in said infiltration, thus giving the government under the rubric of fighting domestic terrorism unrestrained and unsupervisable power to suppress legitimate political activities, the unleashing and justifications for Christian fascists to murder those they do not like (such as the assassination of Dr. George Tiller and the killing at the Holocaust Museum a few days ago) - this news adds further fuel to the fire.

Drastische hervorming toezicht VS
Gepubliceerd: 16 juni 2009 14:52 | Gewijzigd: 16 juni 2009 14:52
Door onze financiële redactie

Amsterdam, 16 juni.

Reuters Asia reported on the existence of this car last year. I bet you haven't heard of it. Why not?

The "hydrogen cell" technology pushed by Bush & Co. is a preposterous
over-complication of a simple idea. Hydrogen is already in water and the energy from hydrogen can be released from water in the car. There's no reason on earth to produce hydrogen centrally, truck it around and create hydrogen fillings stations.

The fact that Obama & Co. are not all over this is a sign of how profoundly compromised he is by the oil industry. There are already several replacements for gasoline powered cars ready to go right now.

We know what the hold up is.

Onderstaand een reactie van een Amerikaan die ik ken van een ander forum:

So they are leveling abandoned neighborhoods in economically depressed areas? Have you seen pictures of what Detroit has become? It is just a fuckin barren wasteland, a complete ghost town. I had a friend whose father lived near Detroit back in the early 90's, and even then he said that Detroit was an incredibly frightening place. I mean, on Halloween the past time there was to set fire to the abandoned and not-abandoned buildings.

I think it was a couple of months ago that i read the average price of a home in Detroit had dropped to 18,000 dollars, the place is just gone, and i don't see why anyone would opt have blocks of burned out warehouses around them when there is an alternative.

There seem to be many places in the US that are struggling with this very problem, and what if this model works in Detroit, then there is a chance that it can be applied to other cities around the US as well.
